About Steve

A lifelong admirer of art, I took up drawing and oil painting in my mid-30s. I was jolted awake to color, tone, and form. Suddenly everything–clods of dirt, cups of coffee, flowers, nostrils–was new and strange and lovely. I remain obsessed with the poetry of light as it makes its way through everyday life.

I'm mostly self-taught, but enroll in any workshop I can find. I love to see how other artists work and try their methods. This has led me to new mediums, such as charcoal and watercolor.

I'm honored to be represented by the McCall-Guess Gallery in Orleans. I've taken part in a handful of exhibitions and shows, with a variety of ribbons. My paintings hang in businesses and homes across the country, recently City Hall in Cleveland.

When not painting, I enjoy running, traveling, friends and family. I’m a bit of a news junkie. My day job is a family doctor in Columbus, Ohio.
